Rome, Italy
There’s a reason US News and World Report ranked Rome its top pick of 30 places for the “World’s best Vacations.” Rome is packed with western history, more than almost any other city in the world. There are places in the world where one can go see historic sites. In Rome, history is all around you. The walls of existing buildings predate the voyages of Columbus. Buildings erected by the Roman empire, like the Coliseum, the Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain still stand against time. Inside of Rome, Vatican City echoes the voices of every pope who walked through her hallways. The Sistine Chapel stands at one end, bearing some of the most famous artwork in Western history. There is more to do in Rome than one has time for in a lifetime.
