Iguazu Falls, Argentina & Brazil
Depending on which side you approach the falls, you may have to look for the Cataratas do Iguaçu or the Cataratas de Iguazu. Those are the names in Portuguese and Spanish respectively, but the original name was Amerindian, Guarani or Tupi Indian: Yguasu. It means big water. All those names sound the same when pronounced correctly. The River Iguazu flows from Brazil smashing into Argentina where the falls form, not unlike Niagra Falls. The big difference is Iguazu is three times as wide as Niagra and way less manicured. Iguaza resides in the middle of a national forest, so plan to travel a little to get there, but definitely plan to take a boat tour. Also, bring some ziplock bags and a waterproof camera. You’re gonna get wet, but unlike Niagra, the water is warm and the climate is tropical. You’ll dry off, not freeze to death.
