Ashikaga Flower Park, Ashikaga, Japan
If it’s size one seeks in a flower park, stick to Keukenhof Park in the Netherlands. Ashikaga Flower Park is only 23 acres in size… only. What it offers that the other does not is flowers not only on the ground but in the trees. Where flowers aren’t thrusting up from the soil, they dangle from the branches of huge Wisteria. The two parks are quite different beyond the obvious. The Japanese park offers unique combinations of two key Earth elements for gardening, water, and soil. They’ve built a maze of bridges, serving as a pleasant stroll. It’s an endless parade of color nestled into a valley of verdant bluffs. Go in April or May to get the best experience. The park is only a 15-minute stroll from the Tomita train station, which you can access from Tokyo.
