Hang-Glide over the Favelas–Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The hills over Rio de Janeiro are home to the favelas, neighborhoods, of the city. Most of them are not safe for travelers to wander about, but one can sail overhead without too much risk. If you’re a seasoned hang-glider, this is the place you want to go, but no worries if you’ve never flown before. Hang gliding is safer than sky diving, where most of the risk is on the plane going up. In hang-gliding, there are no planes. Also, there are no chutes to fail, only wind on which to glide. Also, on bang for thrill-seeking buck, hang-gliding dollars go a long way. Most outfits will stay up for an hour or more for the same cost as a bungee jump, which lasts seconds.
