Sasha is an eight-week-old Labrador who lives in Melbourne, Australia. She was minding her own business when some thieves broke into her family’s home and stole her along with an iPad, some jewelry, and a laptop.

A day or two later, the family spoke on Australian national news in an appeal to get Sasha back. Tearful four-year-old Maia spoke on the news outlet, saying she was “devastated” at the loss of her “best friend”. They appealed to the public for information to help find the missing puppy.

Apparently, the appeal worked. While the missing valuables have not been returned, one precious pup has been.

“We didn’t want to get our hopes up. And then this morning, my wife got up to make herself a coffee, walked past the sliding door, and noticed that there was a figure moving by the kennel,” Ryan Hood, one of Sasha’s owners told Australia Today, “We think that whoever took her has either has a conscience or got scared and just dropped her over the fence … we don’t care to be honest, we’re just glad to have her back.”

Senior Constable Adam Leggo believes that the theft of the dog probably wasn’t planned. As far as motivation goes, that’s a puzzle.

“It’s a bit of a strange one,” he said, “It’s difficult to understand what they were thinking.”

Ryan Hood says that Sasha is in good health and doesn’t seem traumatized by the events. She’s developed a weird fascination with shoes during her absence from home, though!

The Victoria Police, who are heading up the investigation into the burglary, says that they’re still searching for the thieves and trying to recover the missing items.

They posted an adorable video of four-year-old Maia’s reunion with her beloved pet.

“It was a great start to the day for this Croydon Hills family when they were reunited with their puppy after it was stolen in a burglary on Monday morning,” the Victoria Police wrote on their Facebook Page. “Labrador Sasha was overwhelmed with love and play time when he was finally united with his four-year-old owner.”
