Florence, Italy
It’s the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. You may not have Florence on your radar, but most people will recognize that famous Duomo from hundreds of movies. It gets almost as much screen time as the Eiffel Tower or Lady Liberty. In Italy’s Tuscan region, Florence holds the title for the largest city, but when you walk her streets, she seems so intimate. That charm has been with the city of Florence since Julius Ceasar established the city in 59 BCE. Yeah, it’s venerable. Florence is home to a large collection of fine art, one can find the statue of David by Michelangelo, amongst other pieces of international art. One could spend a day wondering the parks of the city or shopping on the Ponte Vecchio, a medieval stone bridge over the Arno River.
