New York City, U.S.A.
Along with New Orleans, this is as close as one can get to leaving the country without actually acquiring a passport. New York is America’s port; not as old-world charming as Boston, but charming in its own very American way. Most people know New York City as Manhattan, but there are five boroughs [think: cities] within the borders of New York City, all one city since 1898. Few places influence world commerce, art, media, fashion, technology, and more than New York City. Tourists go to see the Statue of Liberty, the new World Trade Tower, and Times Square, but these are the tip of the iceberg. There is a reason they call it the city that never sleeps because, at any time of day, one can find restaurants and corner stores open for business.
