12-year-old Mittal lives with her mother. She was just twelve when several armed assailants forced their way into her home and started beating her mother, trying to extort money. Mittal didn’t run away. Instead, she attacked the men. They turned on her and started to stab her, but she didn’t let go of them until the police arrived and arrested the attackers. Mittal won the National Bravery Award in 2012.
