22. The ‘First Lady of Civil Rights’

In a moment that would be forever immortalized by the American Civil Rights Movement, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus. This happened on December 1st, 1955, when she decided not to listen to the bus driver, who had ordered her to give up her seat for a white commuter because the white section of the bus was filled. She was arrested for her act of defiance and became a symbol of resistance against racial segregation. Her actions eventually sparked the Civil Rights Movement. She never stopped fighting for equal rights.
