19. The Unknown Protester of Tienanmen Square

On the morning of June 5th, 1989, tanks rolled into the Tiananmen Square protests. One man, labeled the “Tank Man”, temporarily stopped the tanks’ progression by stepping directly into their path, armed only with two shopping bags. The tanks tried to drive around him, but he continued to step in their path. The man was later dragged away so the tanks could continue. To this day, no one knows his identity, or what happened to him.
