Anthony Omari was the only grown man on the premises of the Faraja Children’s Home in Ngong, Kenya, when it was attacked by raiders. He woke to find three men standing over his bed. Omari grabbed the hammer he hid under his mattress and took out all three of the machete-armed intruders at once. He chased them out of the orphanage, screaming at them in an effort to scare them and warn the children. One of the intruders struck him with a machete, but he kept fighting and pushed the intruders out far enough to lock all the doors. His bravery ensured that all of the children at the Faraja Children’s Home were safe.
