There’s something about growing a plant for yourself that makes you happier. Some of it has to do with spending time in nature. Some of it has to do with having another living thing nearby. Getting your hands dirty outside puts you in contact with a specific bacteria found in soil: Mycobacterium vacca. This helpful microscopic creature actually triggers seratonin production in the brain, which fights depression and, you guessed it, makes you happy the same way exercise or a hug from a friend does.
