38. Be Gentle With Yourself

We all make mistakes. We say something stupid to a coworker, we miss a deadline on a project, or we stay home on a couch instead of going to the gym like we said we would. There’s a time to be self-disciplined, but there’s also a point where it’s no longer helpful to keep beating yourself up over your past mistakes. Focusing on negative habits can actually reinforce them. Instead, focus on what you can learn from your mistakes and then move on. You’ll waste a lot less energy being upset and end up much happier in the long run.
