9. One Good Deed…
When a photo of an officer buying shoes for a homeless man in Timeless Square was posted online, it warmed the hearts of millions of viewers and went viral. “I still have a grudge against law enforcement everywhere,” wrote one commenter, “but my respects to that fine officer.”
The officer in the picture, Officer DePrimo, joined the NYPD in 2010 and lives on Long Island. That night had been an unusual one for him. He was normally assigned to a different area, but had taken over that street that night instead. He’d been walking down Seventh Avenue at about 9:30 PM when he spotted the homeless man on the street.
“It was freezing out and you could see the blisters on the man’s feet,” DePrimo said, “I had two pairs of socks and I was still cold.”
He asked the homeless man’s shoe size, and then promptly went into a nearby Sketchers store and bought him a pair of all-weather boots.
DePrimo never got the homeless man’s name, but he said “He was the most polite gentleman I had met.”
DePrimo was later promoted for his good deed.
