Bryce Canyon, Utah
One has to appreciate finding Martian landscapes right one’s backyard. If you’re from the U.S., you don’t even need a passport to check out this national park. Gonna let you on a secret, though. The Canyon in question is not really a canyon. They call it a collection of amphitheaters at the edge of a plateau. We call the structures inside the amphitheater, “hoodoos.” Yup, hoodoos. They formed from frost and natural weathering patterns, eroding the sedimentary rock below, displaying the layers formed on the Earth long before humans walked the place. If you think the amphitheater is huge, the entire park is 55 square miles in size. Most people will fly into Vegas to access Bryce, but the long drive from Salt Lake City offers scenic views on Highway 12.
