9. Shirahone Onsen Hot Springs—Matsumoto City, Nagano, Japan

In the northern Alps of Japan, in the valley of the Yugawa River, the Shirahone Onsen draws travelers as it has for 400 years. The name of the springs translates to white bone in English, a reference to the color of the water. It’s about an hour by train from the nearest city, Matsumoto. On top of the spectacular natural views, there are modern accommodations and eateries.
