Adam West died this last Friday from leukemia at the age of 88. His death came as a hard blow to much of the world. He played as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the gloriously campy, but still awesome 1960s Batman TV series.
Any time Gotham needed help from Batman, they’d light the Bat-signal. Batman would see it and come to the rescue, helping anyone who needed it, protecting the weak, and making the bad guys pay for their evil deeds.
Adam West really did the character justice. His Batman is one of the best-beloved and best-remembered versions. He will always be remembered as a hero – not only because he portrayed one on TV, but also for his donations to St. Jude’s and his battle with leukemia.
According to an announcement from Batman’s creator, DC Comics, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Chief Charlie Beck will join “Bat-guests” to light a Bat-signal above the city at City Hall tonight to honor West’s portrayal of “the Bright Knight”.
West’s family is encouraging any fans unable to attend the ceremony to donate to either the Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Camp Rainbow Gold.
